Layne's Activity in Insom
23 March 2014 10:14 pmLayne went from her dream to tumbling into Insom 15 Minutes Late With Starbucks.
There, she met Allan, who she didn't particularly get along well with, though she learned that the mist could be manipulated. When Allan's own memories activated a creepy little how-do-you-do in the mist, she stumped off with a mist-made stick until she found Daniil in Bear In Mind.
Through Daniil, and after seeing Liam disappear, Layne got information about nightmares. More specifically, how to get rid of them, but she didn't get much farther than that since Andrew showed up. They talked briefly about goings-on between others Layne hadn't met, and then Andrew explained how orbs worked and where the currently made locations were based on a map he'd conjured from the mist. After one last question about the orbs, Layne then went to Shut Up Brain.
Dani, Nei and Elizabeth were at the bookstore where Layne ended up, and she was rather suspicious of Dani because he looked like Daniil. After all, nightmares could look like anyone. Elizabeth left, and Layne was determined enough to get to the bottom of the situation that she upset Dani and he left not long after. Nei'ess quickly followed. Meanwhile, Liam showed up carrying Joss, while Echo carried Leirina. Layne freaked out because she thought the nightmare that Daniil had gotten rid of had come back in the form of Liam, while Echo was in her werewolf form. She shot both of them, making Liam retreat and then reappear, and Leirina quickly healed the damage to Echo's chest. Cassidy managed to talk some sense into Layne while Liam threatened, and Echo discovered exactly what she did as a living. When Layne admitted that she didn't want to be like the monsters she hunted and kill willy-nilly, she attuned a blue (common) orb that Cassidy had in her pocket. It became a replacement prosthetic. From there, she, Echo and Cassidy went inside to Getting A Leg Up.
Ian and Take soon joined the party, questioning what had happened outside, while Layne put her new prosthetic on. She flippantly explained, which made Cassidy angry and snap back at her, and shortly after, Echo left, which made Layne feel a little guilty. Once up and walking, she decided to accompany the boys and Cassidy outside to further explore, in Going Postal.
Cassidy started out by sending letters via owl to various people while Layne watched. The appearance of Joss' library startled everyone, but by then Layne had already resolved to go exploring even if no one else was coming along. Liam's appearance made her all the more willing to jaunt off on her own. After Liam left to find Echo, Layne went in the opposite direction and ended up in Fairytales and Fantasies.
Coming upon new voices made her wary, and she closed in on Daniil and Mistte as they talked. She wasn't sure, now that she had more sense of the rules, that either of them were nightmares, nor did she know if they were actually human. She was wary even while Daniil described less nightmarish nightmares, up until the advent of a giant mosquito. It started after them, and Layne grabbed Mistte while Daniil ran on his own, and they darted into Looking For Clues In All The Wrong Places.
There, Layne and Mistte had trouble getting onto the platform. Daniil noticed, and rushed in to protect them at the cost of his own temporary body. When Elizabeth decided to butt in and explain that Daniil was made of thoughts and mist, Layne went off on her. Rufus did some calming on all sides, while Layne comforted Mistte. However, when they tried to go back over to rest at the platform for a while, it turned out that Mistte was what was keeping Layne from being able to access it, since he was a nightmare. Layne deemed to set that notion aside for the moment, and eventually she and Mistte agreed to accompany Rufus on his quest to find Milton in Adventure Time, which is the current thread.
